Panel 2: They open both their eyes wide as someone says “Pardon me.” from off panel.
Panel 3: Standing in the doorway to the cottage is an Old Woman with her eyes closed. She’s wearing fancy fabric clothes covering her from her hair to over her feet. Her face is curved and large. She has a small set of lips and a very wide mouth. She’s using a cane. She says “Why are you eating an old, blind woman’s home? I worked very hard on it.”
Panel 4: The Old Woman looks down at Gretel. Gretel says “We were left in the woods by our father because our stepmother told him too. Again.” The Old Woman says “Oh dear.” Gretel says “We’re just so hungry.”
Panel 5: The Old Woman puts the back of her hand on her forehand, exasperated. She says “My stars! You poor children!”
Panel 6: The Old Woman welcomes the kids to her house, holding her hand palm up before the doorway. The kids look up at her. She says “Why not come in, eat, and rest a bit?”
Panel 7: Hansel and Gretel are both smiling and looking up. Gretel says “Ok!” and Hansel says “This is a great idea!”
Panel 8: Text says “Two weeks later.” Hansel is in a hanging cage, holding on to the bars. He says “This was a terrible idea.”
Panel 9: Gretel looks up from scrubbing the floor. She says “This is not ok.”
Panel 10: We’re in the Old Woman’s kitchen. Hansel is in the background in his cage. The Old Woman is looking down at Gretel as Gretel scrubs the floor. The Old Woman is saying “When you’re down with the floor, work on the oven. It’s been finicky lately.” Behind the Old Woman and Gretel is a cast iron oven. To the right of the doors of the oven is a large button. In the foreground are two skulls. The skulls are each saying “Tricked.”
Panel 11: The Old Woman looks back at Hansel. Hansel is clearly terrified. The Old Woman says “And you.”
Panel 12: The Old Woman opens her mouth wide, revealing her spectral face! Her eyes are hollow, black voids and a large, long, tapered tongue comes out, curling towards us. She says “Let’s fatten you up!”
Panel 13: The Old Woman stands in the doorway, heading out for an errand. She says “I’m going to get more food. I want you plump and ready.” Quietly she adds “I hope the duck is there.”
Panel 14: Gretel looks up, anger in her eyes. She says “We’ll be ready.”
