Panel 1: An establishing shot of a rustic old house in a clearing, surrounded by trees. Two cars are parked outside. The house looks like a large cottage. It is impressively built but showing the wear and tear of age. Spooky woods are around it. The title text says “Return Unto Me.” A captions says “Yorkshire, 1974.” A voice from inside the house says “We’ll take it.”
Panel 2: A realtor is walking out of the house as a family talks out front. On the wall by the door is an ancient nameplate by the door which reads Boggart’s Hollow. Emerging from the door are a youngish couple, Peter and Susan Trentham, and their precocious 11-year-old son, Jeremy. Their clothing, suave by 1970s standards, and snooty attitude mark them out as casually wealthy. Holding the door for them as they exit is an
older man in a suit and tie, the local estate agent. The estate agent says “Excellent. It really is a bargain, Mr. Trentham, especially considering the land attached to the property.” Peter says “Get the contracts drawn up and I’ll have a banker’s draft telegrammed over today.” The estate agent says “Oh, you’re paying cash? Excellent!” Peter says “Do I look like a man who needs a mortgage?”
Panel 3: The estate agent kneels down, patronising, rubbing the head of Jeremy who looks appalled at the proximity. The estate agent says “Five acres of woodland to have adventures in, eh? I bet you can’t wait.” Jeremy says “I despise nature. It’s foul and dirty.”
Panel 4: Standing at the cars, the estate agent is holding his car door open, ready to get in and leave. Susan looks back at the house, talking to Peter and Jeremy. Susan says “What does the name mean? Boggart’s Hollow?” The estate agent says “I’m not sure. Some local legend, I believe. Mrs Murray, the housekeeper, probably knows all about it. She’s been here for
years. I assume you’ll be keeping her on.”
Panel 5: Peter, Susan and Jeremy look at the house as the estate agent drives away. Peter has an arm around Jeremy’s shoulders. Susan says “Good lord, Peter. It’s horrible.” Jeremy says “It smells mouldy.” Peter says “Give me a few months to bypass the planning process and we can knock it all down. Level the woodland and build something of our own.”
Panel 6: Peter, cold, sneering, looks at nothing. He thinks he’s right, as always. Peter says “Something that suits the twentieth century.”
