Panel 1: A young John Lambton, dressed in a tunic and cap, pulls the Lambton Worm up from the river. Lambton is distressed. The captions say “The legend goes that centuries ago John Lambton, son of the local lord, skipped church to go fishing in the River Wear. What he caught was no fish.”
Panel 2: Lambton takes the Worm and shoves it in to a well. The caption says “Repulsed by the strange creature, young Lambton threw it down a nearby well and thought nothing more of his bizarre catch.”
Panel 3: The Worm is leaving the well, but now it’s huge! Villagers are running away. The villagers are drawn flat and stiffly, like they are from the Bayeux Tapestry. The captions say “Many years later, the worm had grown to immense size and escaped from the well. It terrorised the villages and farms for months, devouring livestock and people alike.”
Panel 4: The Worm is wrapped around two knights, acting like a boa constrictor. One knight is stabbing the Worm with his sword, but it’s not doing much damage. The captions say “Many tried to kill the beast, but with no success. Its wounds healed instantly, and many a brave knight was crushed in its terrible coils.”
